PORTLAND, OR — What began as a niche Etsy product has now exploded into the cultural mainstream: adult pacifiers are being hailed by progressive influencers as a vital self-care tool and “trauma-responsive oral sovereignty devices.”
Dubbed “Soothies for Social Justice,” the pacifiers have become a staple at rallies, university lounges, and city council meetings across coastal metro areas. Crafted from recycled silicone and sold in pastel, nonbinary color palettes, each unit comes with affirmations printed across the handle like “Silence Is Violence” and “This Is My Safe Space.”
“It’s not regressive,” said Maya (they/them), a graduate student studying Critical Nurturance Theory. “It’s reclaiming the oral stage in a decolonized framework of healing.”
The devices are reportedly helpful during:
• Exposure to TDS microaggression
• Having one’s ideas gently challenged
• Accidentally hearing a Joe Rogan clip
• Reading one of Mark’s Books
Legislation Pending
Several West Coast cities have already passed ordinances mandating pacifier-distribution kiosks at all public protests, college orientations, and Whole Foods. Seattle’s mayor described them as “an equity-forward emotional PPE.”
Corporate Sponsorship & Limited Edition
Nike has reportedly designed a limited-edition “AirSuck Max” adult pacifier with Bluetooth-enabled mood tracking and a built-in safe word. Meanwhile, Mark’s Books is rumored to be developing a pacifier-shaped USB drive containing his entire literary catalog—in case reading ever becomes emotionally possible again.
