Berkeley, CA – A new grassroots initiative is calling on TikTok and other platforms to provide monetary reparations to progressive influencers for their “generational trauma and unpaid emotional labor.”
“We’ve spent years educating the masses with dance videos about systemic oppression,” said 19-year-old activist Skylar Gendernée/TheyShe, who identifies as “digitally exploited.” “It’s time to get paid for our likes.”
The movement’s proposal:
• $1,000 per viral post with hashtags like #DecolonizeBrunch.
• A “trigger-free creator zone” where only progressive voices can trend.
• Mandatory digital land acknowledgments before every TikTok dance.
TikTok responded by adding a “Woke Boost” filter that applies pastel protest signs and a slow zoom-in on teary eyes.
